Our evolving approach
Project identification and development
The ADF gives particular emphasis to the development of participatory
methods within rural communities as a basis for identifying needs and
projects which create sustainable employment. Projects can be for
private individuals, families, groups or whole communities. Training is
considered to be an essential component of such projects. Projects
which can show potential financial feasibility, with training
costed-in, are preferred. In order to help foster effective farm
planning and rural economic growth, the ADF provides extension in the
form of advice and practical support in agricultural economics and
rural development. Part of this support is the provision of online
utilities for undertaking farm management and rural development work.
Project quality & funding
The ADF is currently developing project identification and selection
criteria to assist rural communities in their project identification
and preparation efforts.
The
ADF is also developing alternative private funding mechanisms to
substitute the large and, unfortunately, often ineffective loans and
financial schemes set up by governmental, bi-lateral and international
agencies, especially for low income rural communities. An example of
this equity-based approach is the Development Equity Exchange (DEX) a
privately supported funding source for rural community projects. This
concept has been developed by our AgriTrust division.
The
pioneer DEX facility is a pilot scheme dedicated to developing
profitable projects for Romani communities in Hungary. It has been
developed in collaboration with the European Committee on Romani
Emancipation (ECRE). This pilot facility is called RomaDEX.
